Ever wanted to learn to act? Rugby Theatre is running acting masterclasses for stage and screen this October, led by renowned actor and director Mark McGann.

Open to total beginners as well as experienced actors looking to hone their skills, a Stage Acting Masterclass is taking place on Saturday 24 October, followed by a Film and TV Acting Workshop on Sunday 25 October.

“I cannot wait to present these exciting workshops designed to develop the skillset of actors of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned campaigners,” says Mark, who is known for his Olivier Award-nominated performance of John Lennon in the production of Lennon, as well as being a writer, filmmaker, director and composer. “Come and explore your passion in a safe, sensitive and nurturing environment. All are welcome.”

The Stage Acting Masterclass aims to demystify the actor’s process using professional industry approaches and personal insights, designed to help each participant recognise their own unique artist within. Key skills include greater awareness of stagecraft, vocal delivery, effective text analysis, audience connectivity and improved stage presence.

Mirroring professional film and TV set protocol and best practice, the Film & TV Acting Workshop offers a rare opportunity to complete a high-quality screenplay scene under Mark’s supportive direction. Every scene will be shot and edited to broadcast quality, before being delivered to all participants as a quality showreel scene for their personal and professional use.

“You can be a beginner, and I will gear the day to give you just as meaningful an experience on screen as I would if I were working with seasoned actors,” says Mark about the Film & TV Acting Workshop. “So please don't be scared if you don't have any experience. It's precisely you who I want to help into an understanding, and to have an exciting day in front of camera.”

The Stage Acting Masterclass takes place at Rugby Theatre on Saturday 24 October (9.30am - 5pm) and costs £100. The Film and TV Acting Workshop takes place at Rugby Theatre on Sunday 25 October (9.30am - 5pm) and costs £255, including your own show reel (limited to 10 places, so early booking is advised).
