‘I’ve…baked four thousand six hundred medium-sized Quiches and personally made two tons of short crust pastry. And for what?’ – Grace, Entertaining Angels.

Second Thoughts Drama Group are bringing the 2006 comedy, Entertaining Angels by Richard Everett to the Bear Pit Theatre in July. Originally starring Penelope Keith as Grace at the Chichester Festival Theatre, the play broke records and went on to enjoy a sold-out tour across the UK. Now, director Jo Knight will transform the play for performance in the round.

Since the death of her vicar husband Bardolph, Grace’s life has been fraught with problems, from troublesome parishioners to Bardy’ ghost. As she searches for forgiveness for past actions, and her sister Ruth returns with surprising revelations, Grace is forced to reflect on her marriage, God, and what it means to be a devoted vicar’s wife, a role which she is already rebelling against.

Against the backdrop of big changes in the Church and the arrival of a new vicar, Entertaining Angels is a witty and yet poignant comedy as Grace tries to come to terms with a past that is very different from what she remembers. The experienced cast includes Second Thoughts regulars Jane Grafton, Gill Hines, and Tracy Humphreys, joined by new members Charles Redman and Zoe Mortimer.
