The play Three Shots by John Marquez is set in Coventry, in Binley Woods, and stars two Coventry-born actors, John Marquez, well-known for his roles in Doc Martin and Wild Cherry, and his brother Martin Marquez (Heartstopper, Hotel Babylon), alongside the BAFTA-nominated, and EMMY-winning Lucy Cohu (Amadeus, Broadchurch).
In the play, Three Shots, Darren has left everything behind to go live in the woods. Just off the A46 near Coventry, he weathers the elements, hunts for local prey, and argues with a mysterious creature that’s stolen his bottle opener. Until his brother arrives, and the life he was trying to escape forces its way back in.
The play is inspired by John and Martin's childhood in 1970s Coventry, and explores masculinity, isolation and the desire to escape it all. The production team have also collaborated with the Coventry-born artist, George Shaw, whose paintings depict the edgelands between Coventry and the woods that surround it (as seen in the poster).
