Loft Theatre Presents the Award‑Winning Drama - Doubt: A Parable from Wednesday 25 February until Saturday 7 March. Written by John Patrick Shanley, directed by Chris Gilbey-Smith.
Preview.
John Patrick Shanley’s acclaimed drama premiered on Broadway in 2005, winning the Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony Awards, including Best Play. Set in a 1960s Bronx convent school, the story follows a modernising priest whose conduct is called into question by the school’s formidable principal. As their actions and motivations come under intense scrutiny and suspicion escalates, the pair are drawn into a gripping battle of wills with potentially irrevocable consequences. Challenging and provocative, this much‑garlanded playwright’s work remains impeccably written and compellingly topical. Unmissable.
Director Chris Gilbey-Smith says of the play: “I’m thrilled to bring this powerful and thought-provoking production of Doubt: A Parable to you… The brilliance of the play lies in the uncertainty - whether the accusation is true or not remains ambiguous, forcing us to confront how we deal with suspicion when the truth is out of reach.”
