One Four All, running at The Bear Pit from 2 – 5 July, is a one-act play extravaganza with something for everyone, whether you are feeling a little bit lost in life, are passionate about previously overlooked historical moments or enjoy a comedy. Second Thoughts’ summer show is a tutti-frutti of drama, comedy, and pathos as the fates align, ghosts arise, and shipwrecked sailors find new frenemies. Flitting from new writing with local roots to laboratories uncovering the identity of previously unknown Australian soldiers, this production travels between four different times, places, and stories.
With a poignant mix of comedy and pathos, in Moving On by Sarah Campbell, a surly house clearance owner and his over-enthusiastic apprentice arrive at the house of a deceased actress whose spirit remains “stuck”. Matters are complicated further when the acrimonious ex-wife visits and reveals a devastating secret. Can all four confront their pasts and move on?
Next is the Australian drama Dig for the Diggers by Lynn Brittney, which centres on the First World War and explores the DNA identification of a missing soldier after the fresh discovery of previously unknown burial pits.
Do you believe in fate? In Set in Stone by Georgina Monk, John and Evelyn aren’t certain. After hearing about the centuries-old magic of the Rollright Stones, they head there hoping to turn their lives around- but, as the years pass, are the stones magic, or is there something else at play?
A desert island spoof, All By Myself by Robert Scott is a hilarious comedy that plays with the usual desert island tropes as shipwrecked sailor Larry discovers that his island home is far more populated than he first thought.
Directed by four different directors, including Dwayne Dawson, Rachel Alcock, Adam Schumacher and Lynda Jepson (The Woman in White), the large cast includes Dwayne Dawson, Samantha Nicholas, Steph Jepson-Sensicle, Imogen Clarke, Adam Schumacher, David Hope, Ian McLean, Demié Tilly, Georgina Monk, Emerson Fairclough, Christa Gaskell, Tracy Humphreys, and Chloe Wiltshire.
One Four All runs 2-5 July at The Bear Pit, Rother Street, Stratford-Upon-Avon, with performances starting at 7.30 pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30 pm. Tickets cost £14 (£13 concession) and can be booked online at www.secondthoughts.org.uk/bookings, on 0333 666 3366, or on the door from one hour before the performance.
