Mary Shelley reflects on her tempestuous life - the influence of her mother Mary Wollstonecraft, her father William Godwin and her husband the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Lonely and isolated, the past returns to haunt her, and almost drive her mad, - the loss of her children, her friendship with Lord Byron and the “the bane of her life” her stepsister Claire Clairmont. As the recollections crowd in she finds there is there is no escape from the enduring power of her creation - Frankenstein’s creature. Darkly Gothic and dramatic…a bold new production.
“My name is Mary…Mary Shelley. The year is…let me think, I think, I am sure it is 1851 and I am alive and I am 53 years old, yes. I am sick, and am told, may have only days to live. There is a swelling on my brain that causes these powerful spells of madness. Where once I could see with utter clarity now it is all fever full.”
