Thousands of TV, film and comic fans poured into the Olympia Exhibition Centre, London, over the weekend of 14-16 November, enticed by the star-studded line-up of celebrities from their favourite TV series and films and the opportunity to get into Cosplay gear.
MCM Comic Con events around the country always attract a huge following, whether it’s to enjoy dressing up as their favourite TV, film, cartoon or video game character. Others were drawn to the hundreds of stalls selling merchandise, replica props, toys and figures, posters, autographed photos, cosplay accessories and a myriad of collectables.

Over the three-day event in London, one of the highlights, particularly for Batman fans was a display of three iconic Batman vehicles. On loan from Character Cars was the instantly recognisable 1966 Batmobile; also the car relating to the 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film; and the Tumbler – the impressive, armoured vehicle recreated car used in the Dark Knight Trilogy. Not surprisingly there were quite a few Batmen in attendance over the weekend.

For Aliens fans was a line-up of actors from the 1986 Aliens film. They had tables in the main arena, as did the majority of the celebrity guests, plus they took part in an excellent panel event in the Live Theatre Hall. The panel consisted of: Mark Rolston (Private Drake), Ricco Ross (Private Frost), Cynthia Scott (Corporal Dietrich), Carl Troop (Alien Warrior Xenopedia) and William Hope (Lieutenant Scott Gorman). They talked of how they got their parts in the film, what it was actually like working with the great James Cameron on this iconic film.

And for Doctor Who enthusiasts, three doctors were in residence: Colin Baker (6th Dr Who), Sylvester McCoy (7th Dr Who) and David Tennant (10th Dr Who). David Tennant was the only one to have his own private booth where fans could pay for an autograph or a photo with him, but he did make a general appearance on the live stage, giving general attendees an opportunity to see and hear him.

Other well-known actors at Comic Con included actor Sir Derek Jacobi, Ade Edmundson (The Young Ones), Alexei Sayle (actor, author, standup comedian), Brian Blessed OBE (actor), Sam Jones (Flash Gordon), Chris Barrie (Red Dwarf) plus many more. There was also a glittering line-up of Drag Queens; an area for independent writers and artists, demonstrating their skills. With the upstairs part of Olympia dedicated to the UK’s Young Adult Literature Convention (YALC), which brought together a host of YA authors for book signings, writing workshops, book themed activities and more.
