Kinky Boots - A Powerhouse of Perfection!

Kinky Boots, performed by Coventry Musical Theatre Society at The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry until 14 May 2023.

Review by Margaret Mather

This performance oozed energy from start to finish. The singing, the acting, the humour, the dramatisation and the pathos were exceptional. Every single one of the cast brought their all to this musical. The audience participated by clapping, laughing and, on occasion, booing.

The musical is inspired by a true story about a shoe factory in Northampton. When the owner of the factory dies, his son, Charlie Price (Casey McKernan) begrudgingly takes over the ailing business. No one wants to pay for expensive shoes and the factory is facing closure until a chance meeting with a drag queen, changes everything.

Lola (Rushay Miller) is looking for some long, red, sexy boots with a sturdy stiletto heel. This is when Charlie steps up to the mark and shows what he’s made of. The employees work tirelessly to produce a pair of boots, full of glitz and glamour, that fit the bill.

There are many twists and turns until eventually they have the perfect pair for showing on the Milan catwalk. The boots were a huge success and turned around the fortunes of the factory.

What a show! The whole cast were faultless, every note, perfection. This is a ‘must see’ show.
