Two men – one older, one younger ..
Both are addicts…
..but only one realizes
Junkies played to great acclaim in Brighton and Cornwall in the spring, now they are headed to Coventry.
Junkies is a gay age-gap romance with an edge which discovers that addiction comes in many guises. A young man who needs money dates an older who has more than enough. As their relationship develops it becomes clear that they have more in common than either realizes, and that each can help the other to find a way forward.
Junkies is the fourth of Nick Bamford’s plays to be professionally produced and explores very contemporary issues. “I was inspired to write this play by a scene in the TV drama about the opioids scandal in which a character describes how he is as addicted to making money out of the drug as the addicts are to the drug itself,” says writer and director Nick Bamford. “And we now live in a world increasingly in the control of people whose only aim in life is to make as much money as they can by whatever means even though it will not and cannot make them happy.”

The cast is Nigel Fairs and Langley Howard. Nigel’s work includes Translations at the National Theatre and the recent film In From the Side as well as Silent Witness and Emmerdale. Langley was in Nick’s Come Out Fighting as well as the award-winning film Malus.
Feedback from audiences has included:
‘A very important play’

‘The story was amazing – made me laugh – made me cry’
‘Very engaging and very touching’
‘A clever twist.. kept me very entertained!’
‘Exceptionally good acting’
