Girl Power At Its Very Best

One of the many highlight Frida Kahlo. Previous cast of FGW (c) Pamela Raith Photography.

Fantastically Great Women who changed The World, The Belgrade Theatre from 7 - 11 February.

Review by Margaret Mather.

The musical is based on Kate Pankhurst’s popular children’s picture books of the same name. Kate is a descendent of Suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst.

There have been so many great female historical figures that have left their mark on the world. This show celebrates some of them with copious amounts of energy, colour and fantastically great singing. Unforgettable songs match unforgettable achievements.

Fantastically Great Women. Previous cast of FGW (c) Pamela Raith Photography

Jade (played by Georgia Grant-Anderson), while on a school trip to the local museum, finds herself alone and decides to take a peek at the soon to open Gallery of Greatness. She steps inside and is stunned to meet the amazing women featured there. Frida Kahlo, Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Mary Seacole, Marie Curie, Emmeline Pankhurst to name but a few. Great explorers to talented artists, scientists who changed our lives for the better and strong, brave women, who gave their lives to save ours, abound in this brilliant musical. Georgia is a talented actor and beautiful singer.

A show that will lift your spirits. Previous cast of FGW (c) Pamela Raith Photography

Apart from Georgia Grant-Anderson, each cast member played various parts. Elena Breschi, Jennifer Caldwell, Chloe Hart, Leah Vassell, Millie Kiss, Summer Priest and Rachel Seirian, played their parts to perfection with singing voices to knock your socks off.

Talented musicians sat in cubes high above the stage and rocked their way through some notable songs. One of the highlights, and there were many, was the scene with Elena Breschi playing Frida Kahlo. It was full of colour, with wonderful singing and a vibrancy which shone through.

If you want to go and see a show that lifts your spirits, makes you laugh and is full of energy and colour, then this is a must-see.
