Welcome to Macready's Season of The Bard.

Dust off your doublets and ready your ruffs — it’s Shakespeare season at Rugby School’s Macready Theatre! We're serving up the classics with many a twist, featuring live theatre, insightful talks, and stunning ballet performances, all inspired by the Bard himself.


Whether you're a Shakespeare guru or a ballet buff, grab a ticket and prepare for a season where the play's the thing — and the drama is deliciously inevitable!


The Tempest: Sunday 22 June 5pm

Prepare to be swept away by Shakespeare as you’ve never seen it before! Following their acclaimed performance at the Coram Shakespeare for Schools Festival, our cast delivers a bold, abridged take on The Tempest. This isn't just Shakespeare, it's a dynamic blend of music, physical theatre, and captivating storytelling. An unforgettable show for all ages.

 

Temple Consort: Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare: Monday 23 June 6pm

Experience Shakespeare through song as Rugby School's Temple Consort presents beautiful musical settings of classic texts! This captivating concert features Vaughan Williams' luxurious unaccompanied choir pieces, George Shearing's fun jazz arrangements, and solo performances from student members, including Finzi's Let Us Garlands Bring.

Flabbergast Theatre present Romeo and Juliet: Monday 23 June, 7pm

Flabbergast Theatre return to Macready Theatre with their award-winning approach to Shakespeare classics. If you’re looking for a fresh and innovative take on one of Shakespeare’s most renowned piece, Romeo and Juliet, you’re in the right place. Flabbergast Theatre embrace physicality whilst celebrating the verse. The company bring musicality and simplicity to the storytelling. You can expect live music, clowning, mask work and another thoroughly enjoyable performance by this incredible company.

Join us to celebrate our LAMDA students' success at the inaugural Monologue Shakespeare Slam! Witness captivating performances of the Bard's works by our talented Theatre and Performing Arts students, showcasing their remarkable clarity and emotional depth in a friendly competition.

Ballet and the Bard: Wednesday 25 June 8pm

Are you looking for a performance that breathes new life into timeless classics, innovates approaches to Shakespeare sonnets, and celebrates tradition with a modern flair? Kings Ballet and That’s A Rap offer a programme of live music and stunning dance performance “Ballet at the Bard” on Wednesday 25 June as part of Macready Theatre’s Shakespeare Season.
