Coventry Singer Songwriters Reveal Their Secrets at CVFolk

Writing Songs with Coventry Singer Songwriters at CVFolk, Albany Theatre Studion Sunday 16 July 2pm-5pm.

Are you a budding singer-songwriter with a passion for creating original songs and sharing them with the world? Are you seeking new song ideas? Or do you simply enjoy the art of songwriters and their ability to produce and blend original lyrics with catchy new melodies?

If the answer is yes to any of these, why not join CVFolk in the Albany Theatre Studio on the afternoon of Sunday, July 16th for a friendly, easy-going, and entertaining concert and masterclass presented by the Coventry Singer Songwriters group?

The acoustic event, simply called ‘Writing Songs’ offers a rare chance to discover how songwriters create a blend of lyrics and melody as they engage with ‘the muse’, while also meeting challenges to write songs about an agreed theme and within a deadline!

Formed in 2010, the group sets out to encourage its members to write a new song every month, based on a common theme. They gather regularly at a home (or sometimes in a pub) and share their compositions with each other. They also decide and vote on a new theme for the next month to give themselves a creative challenge.

Coventry Singer Songwriters have already staged some excellent shows for CVFolk’s monthly folk events in the Albany Theatre, and this one will take on an interesting new format. Group members will take turns playing a choice of their own material but will also talk about the process and inspiration behind songwriting and will answer questions from the audience. It’s all very informal, with no PA system and will hopefully be the first of several community events and workshops that CVFolk plans to run when the Albany Theatre is fully refurbished.

These events will feature well-known names on the folk scene and ‘Writing New Songs’ is no exception, with experienced songwriter and tutor Bob Wilkinson, members of rising star duo Yonderland – Paul Monks and Jane Moss, and CSS founder Jon Harrington among those performing and talking about their work. There will also be an appearance by writer of amazing and thoughtful songs, Rob Halligan; plus well-known songwriter and CVFolk’s organiser, Pete Willow will also be taking part.

The event runs from 2pm until 5pm and admission is free – all are welcome! There will be a voluntary collection during the interval. Refreshments and bar will be available during the afternoon.

Please note that this will run on the third Sunday of July, as opposed to CVFolk’s usual ‘Second Sunday’ monthly events. And it takes place in the afternoon, not the evening. Apart from that, it’s business as usual!
