Parody of the Rings by Jacob Aldroft and Alexabdra Ricou at The Cidermill Theatre, Chipping Camden, Saturday 5  September 2026.

Preview by Charles Essex

Jacob Aldroft and Alexandra Ricou bring their hilarious and fast-paced two-person comedy to The Cidermill Theatre on Saturday 5 September.

Cinemas sometimes have all night or even 24 hour-a-thons playing all the films in a franchise.  Those who attend are clearly aficionados and could probably answer questions on the films as their specialist subject on Mastermind.  They may attend dressed as their favourite character.  Where else will one see 23 Mr Spocks or 42 Harry Potters?

A marathon sitting of the Lord of the Rings trilogy goes wrong when all the DVDs of the films go missing at the cinema.  The ushers Peter and Jackson (bonus point if you spotted the nod to the director of said trilogy) have to recreate the films by improvising using various props they find at the cinema and helped by the audience.  Be prepared for an evening of comedy, chaos, and utter nonsense, as they attempt to recreate the epic saga of Frodo, Samwise and Gollum, and various hobbits, elves, and orcs.

Will Frodo reach Mordor and will Aragorn be crowned king?  Well, my Precious, you’ll have to come to the Cidermill to find out.
