Want to Audition for the Railway Children?

Audition opportunity at The Bear Pit Theatre.

The Bear Pit Theatre, Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon are holding auditions this month for their production of The Railway Children, directed by Emily Myerscough, to be performed 6 to 15 December 2024. Auditions take place from this Tuesday 9 April...read on for full details.

If you would like to audition for one of the roles, or get involved backstage, is Mike Kenny's imaginative stage adaptation of E. Nesbit's much-loved children's classic, The Bear Pit would be delighted to hear from you. And we have all the details!

This is a story of a prosperous Edwardian family - mother and three children - forced into near-penury in the rural north of England which captures the anxieties and exhilarations of childhood with great tenderness and insight. As Mike Kenny says of his remarkably faithful adaptation, “You don't need a real train to perform this play… the most powerful prop is the imagination of the audience, the most effective tool the skill of the actors.”

This version of The Railway Children, offers three plum roles for young performers, and is eminently suitable for schools, youth theatres and drama groups - anywhere, in fact, where the cry of 'Daddy! My Daddy!' is likely to provoke a tear. Mike Kenny's version of The Railway Children was first staged at the National Railway Museum in York in 2008, before receiving a major production at Waterloo Station in London in 2010. And now The Bear Pit, Stratford-upon-Avon 2024!!!

All aboard...

Do you want to be involved – without being on stage?

The Bear Pit are also looking for volunteers to support Emily and the company of actors on and off stage. They need people to create and build their set. Perhaps you are a technical wizard or are intrigued to learn more about lighting and film. You may have a keen eye in the world of costumes and props.

The Bear Pit will also need Chaperones (they will fund for parents to become a licensed chaperone if they are prepared to chaperone for Bear Pit productions).

If you are able to offer your time and can commit to supporting the show the Bear Pit Theatre would love to hear from you.
