STOMP! Returns to Rugby's Festival on the Close

Festival on The Close loves STOMP, the world-famous percussion-dance-theatre sensation, and they seem to like us as they are return for the third time on Tuesday 25 June.
An amazing opportunity awaits the young people of Rugby as throughout the day, 16 past and present cast members will be running workshops with students from schools and colleges across Warwickshire, as well as local dance companies.
As if that won’t be sufficiently exhilarating, the cast will then be inviting all 100 of those student stompers to join them on stage at our festival’s purpose-built Tandem Outdoor Arena to perform together at 6pm. The performance will feature a section of students’ work, plus memorable extracts from STOMP’s West End show. Festival on the Close, is a celebration of culture, creativity, and community, and brings world-class performances to the town of Rugby over five days in June. Every year, we invite children from local schools to join our free creative workshops – last year 2000 attended.
Festival Artistic Director Dr Tim Coker says: “We are particularly excited this year to be programming a really diverse range of events for the whole community, from Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Flawless hip-hop dance company to Sir Greg Doran in conversation about his glittering career as one of the world’s most celebrated and influential interpreters of Shakespeare.
To be able to present such a wide and varied programme all at an affordable cost to the public, is something I am particularly proud of at a time when arts funding is under such strain. Audiences are what keeps the industry alive, and our festival is committed to providing world-class entertainment for as many people as possible to enjoy, right here in the heart of the historic market town of Rugby.”
