Celebrating over 30 years at the forefront of chamber music-making, Onyx Brass is renowned for redefining the brass quintet as a powerful and expressive concert medium. Equally acclaimed for performances of the classic repertoire and for championing contemporary music, the ensemble combines dazzling technical brilliance with the clarity and warmth that have become its hallmark. BBC Radio 3’s Sarah Walker praised the group’s “staggering virtuosity”, while Gramophone described its playing as “some of the most thrilling chamber brass-playing of its kind”.

At the heart of Onyx Brass’ work lies a deep commitment to new music and education. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered more than 200 works by leading composers including Thea Musgrave, Michael Nyman, Judith Bingham, Jonathan Dov and John Tavener. Alongside its extensive concert schedule, Onyx has led workshops and masterclasses from primary schools to the Juilliard School in New York and held long-standing residencies, including 15 years at Imperial College London. Onyx Brass has toured widely across the UK and internationally, appearing at major festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, the USA, Africa and beyond to widespread critical acclaim.
But this concert is about more than the music alone. Rugby School Chapel is a spectacular place to hear a live performance. Its soaring architecture and wonderful acoustics create an atmosphere that feels completely different from an ordinary concert venue, making this a chance to experience both the music and the setting at their very best.
So whether you love classical music, are curious to hear something new, or simply fancy an evening somewhere rather special, this promises to be a memorable night.
