"It befell in the days of Uther Pendragon…”
Following the huge success of her one woman show on the life of Mary Shelley last year, Susannah Foy returns to the stage this autumn accompanied by three musicians. Her new project is an Arthurian fantasy, a new play written by Tony Peters with the story of the sorceress Morgan Le Fay as the subject matter.
Tony writes, “Growing up in the shadow of Glastonbury Tor, the son of a Cornish mother, the myths and legends of King Arthur have always had a strong hold over me. I have attempted to channel these feelings and emotions into a new solo show for actress Susannah Foy. The play tells the story of sorceress Morgan Le Fay, half-sister of King Arthur and the nemesis of the wizard Merlin.
“Dedicated to the old ways and ancient magic she challenges the rule of Arthur and the growing emergence of Christianity, but is soon overwhelmed by dark memories and struggles to maintain her waning magic powers. Standing on the high ground looking out over the battlefield of Camlann, where the forces of King Arthur are drawn up against those of his Son Mordred, she hopes to find victory in this Final Battle.”
The production includes original integrated live music and singing from a three-piece band playing a variety of instruments including percussion, harp, guitar, harmonium and hurdy gurdy, providing atmosphere for this poetic, dark and moody piece.
