Guys and Dolls, presented by Five Star Theatre at The Benn Hall, Rugby from Thursday 1 October to Saturday 3 October 2026.

Review by Ann Cee

My luck was in at The Benn Hall last night when the superb Five Star Theatre presented an exuberant Guys and Dolls.

This Broadway legend of a show has music and lyrics (Frank Loesser) which salsa round your heartstrings until you are betting your last sot on the most unsuitable couples living happily ever after.

What a great show to celebrate ten years as a company.  Owner, director, producer Ethan Locke and choreographer Kerstin Awang have delivered a terrific show bursting with fine voices, warmth and cheekiness, as well as a transfixing band of dancers.  I loved the magnificent fruity head dress, complete with sultry latin dancer.

The night flies by as we swing from New York to Havana and back again... would the shifty craps Guy (Adrian Wilson) finally be snared by the scrumptious Doll, Miss Adelaide (Michele Goode)? ... would the pious Mission Doll (Becca Shaw) get the dodgy, high roller Guy (Ciaran Dempsey) who her heart desired?

Would twinkle-toed Nicely-Nicely (Jaz Dickens-King) find a law abiding future or continue to live a life teetering into the dark side of the underpass?

There's heaps of tenderness and love flowing through the veins of these mildly despicable characters, often with a flash of wit or whimsy.

So much feel-good factor tears through this lively musical which glories in the bright sides of down town city life back when music meant the warm tones of a clarinet or saxophone.

Rumba on down to the Benn Hall this weekend and let the swing into your milkshake, you're in for quite a ride.

Tickets £17.50-£19.50.  Box Office: 01788 533719  Or book online: www.bennhall.co.uk
