Looking for somewhere to take the kids that won’t cost the earth and gives them space to run around and let off steam? Here’s a few ideas – check websites for further details:


Ryton Pools Country Park

Enjoy lovely country walks, children’s play areas including one that’s especially for older more adventurous young people. Also, den building in the woods, a zip wire and lots more. This dog-friendly 100-acre parkland is home to many species of birds and wildlife. Plus, there’s the Courtyard Café with its great range of menus. Surfaced paths make for easy walking. Check on seasonal activities. Currently over the Christmas period there are Christmas Trails to follow. Open all year round except for Christmas Day.

Hartshill Hayes Country Park

Enjoy lovely country walks through ancient woodland with some spectacular views overlooking four counties. Hilly and quite challenging in places but the views and the open air make it worth it. Dog friendly, open all year round and springtime brings glorious carpets of bluebells. There’s an adventure play area, a tea kiosk, toilets and a car park with ticket machine.

Coombe Abbey Country Park

Enjoy 500 acres of beautiful gardens, woodlands and lakeside walks designed by ‘Capability’ Brown. Perfect for picnics, family days out, long walks and enjoying nature at its best. Take a stroll amongst the Giant Redwood trees or book some exciting activities such as axe throwing or Go Ape for a daring adventure on the zip wire and ropes through the treetops. There’s play areas, café and toilets, and you can take the dog. Open all year round, free admission but pay for car parking.

War Memorial Park

Enjoy the open spaces of the War Memorial Park, where you can walk, picnic, play football – there are 12 football pitches, 10 floodlit tennis courts, flat green bowls, golf and footgolf; splash pools in summer, children’s play areas, formal gardens and walks, a café and outside tables and benches. Open all year round, free admission and free car parking.

Allesley Park.

Enjoy the open spaces of Allesley Park – which in the 13th century was a deer park. It’s perfect for relaxing country walks and is dog friendly. There’s an 18-hole golf course and a 9-hole crazy golf course; also, children’s adventure playgrounds, a 1.1 mile circular footpath and a walled garden. Free admission and free parking nearby.
