CVFolk Offers a Musical Refuge from Football at the Albany Theatre

England’s achievement in reaching the Euro 24 finals hasn’t deterred CVFolk from presenting its ‘Six More of the Best’ show this Sunday (14 July).

Following the success of last November’s ‘Six of the Best’ concert, another half-dozen acts with Coventry and Warwickshire connections take to the stage in the Studio of the Albany Theatre, Coventry, each with their own repertoire and music-making skillset, and each contributing to what should be another enjoyable evening of folk and acoustic music.

Organiser Pete Willow is promoting it as ‘a sanctuary from soccer, and a musical haven for football refugees’. But the evening will be scaled down from the full concert originally planned to an informal acoustic session in one of the smaller studios in the theatre building.

There will be some line-up changes as well and guests are still being confirmed, but will include performances by Squire-Gillespie, Nigel Ward, Jane Moss, and Pete Willow.

The music starts at 7.30pm and admission is free but there’s the usual plea for generosity during the interval ‘caddy’ collection.

Looking ahead to the Autumn, CVFolk’s next ‘Second Sunday’ shows will be:

Sunday 8 September – The Hanksters plus The Scutters (fundraiser for dementia-related charity, details tbc)

Sunday 13 October – Amber Liadan (with band) – Irish-born, raised in South Africa, now based in Warwickshire, Amber is gaining a large following as a singer and recording artist. This will be a ticketed event.

Sunday 10 November – Scarecrow, multi-instrumental trio, based in Oxfordshire and proving very popular on the Warwickshire club circuit.
