RSC set to unveil new garden theatre
The RSC at Stratford will unveil its new garden theatre with an outdoor production of The Comedy of Errors from Tuesday, July 13, to September 26.
This production, directed by Phillip Breen, was preparing to open in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre last spring when the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
It also marks the opening of the new garden theatre, a specially constructed outdoor performance space in the Swan Theatre garden (artist's impression above).
In another first, audiences will be able to see the rehearsal process for Henry VI Part One, for four weeks from June 1 to 25, as part of an Open Rehearsal Project.
Each day will begin with a company warm-up, led by members of the acting company and creative team. You can watch a live rehearsal session from noon, as directors Gregory Doran and Owen Horsley work with the actors to put the show together. Then the audience can join the company for a post-rehearsal green room chat from 6pm, as they reflect on the day, unwind, and answer audience questions.
The project culminates in a live streamed final rehearsal room run-through from on Wednesday, June 23, available to watch on demand until June 25.
Priority Booking for the Henry VI Part One: Open Rehearsal Project, and The Comedy of Errors opens on May 10. Public booking opens on Monday, May 24.
