Belgrade Theatre preview: Crongton Knights
Crongton Knights, Belgrade, Coventry, Feb 8-22.
This adaptation by Emteaz Hussain of Alex Wheatle’s Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize-winning novel, makes its world premiere in Coventry before embarking on a UK tour.
It will be co-directed by Pilot Theatre artistic director Esther Richardson, with Corey Campbell, co-artistic director of the Belgrade for 2021, and artistic director of strictly arts.
An innovative beatbox soundscape will bring the pulse of the city to life in this coming-of-age adventure, featuring original compositions by Battersea Arts Centre Beatbox Academy’s Conrad Murray, whose recent show Frankenstein: How To Make A Monster received massive acclaim and played to sell-out audiences at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
Casting includes Aimee Powell and Marcel White, who starred in Strictly Arts’ critically acclaimed show Freeman, as well as Chewing Gum’s Olisa Odele.
