Jacqui McShee and Joe O’Donnell, Belgrade Theatre, B2, October 26.
SHOW CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS
Memories of Coventry’s folk-rock legends Dando Shaft and Whippersnapper will be uppermost in the minds of many at the Belgrade Theatre’s B2 venue when leading lights of contemporary English and Irish folk join forces this Saturday (26th October).
Jacqui McShee (pictured above with Kevin Dempsey), singer with the chart-topping group Pentangle, appears with her new all-star band, Circle, on a billing shared with electric fiddle maestro Joe O'Donnell and his highly talented Celtic fusion line-up Shkayla (pictured below).
Billed as Legends of Folk and Rock, the one-off concert takes place in an appropriate city centre setting. Coventry is currently preparing for its 2021 City of Culture status and both acts have very strong local connections.
The line-up of Circle includes veteran guitarist Kevin Dempsey, founder member of cult Progressive band Dando Shaft and long-time Coventry resident.
One of the event organisers, Litvinoff says: ‘This will be a high-powered concert of the finest folk-related music from two veterans at the top of their game.
‘Coventry’s 2-Tone impact is well-known but the city’s legacy of first-rate progressive folk music is just as important. We want to revive its local profile and we’re delighted to have support from Arts Council England to help us achieve this.
‘We are also working closely with CVFolk, a campaign launched by members of the Coventry and Warwickshire folk music and dance scene who share our vision of a folk revival right here in our City of Culture.’
The concert kicks off at 7.30pm and tickets (£16 - £14 concessions) can be booked at the Belgrade Box Office on 02476 553055 or on http://www.belgrade.co.uk/project/legends-of-folk-and-rock.
