The Railway Children, Criterion Theatre, Coventry, Oct 12-19.
Word is, the theatre in Berkeley Road South Earlsdon, has gone overboard on creating an authentic looking Edwardian railway station, and this imaginative production should be a treat for both young and old alike.
The play, which was adapted by Mike Kenny from the story by E. Nesbit, broke all box office records when it was first staged at the National Railway Museum in York.
Criterion director Helen Withers can't quite match that backdrop, but the set designers and actors are determined to do their best.
As Kenny himself said: "You don't need a real train to perform this play - the most powerful prop is the imagination of the audience, the most effective tool the skill of the actors."
