Playbox tie-up will give youngsters circus training

Warwick-based Playbox Theatre has announced a new partnership with one of the country's top circus training schools, to give its young performers new skills to bring to the stage.

Circus and related arts have long been at the core of what Playbox does, and the new tie-up, with Cotswolds-based School of Larks, means that from this month its young members will experience weekly training which blends sport and art, ground and aerial skills, as well as the creation of acts and performances.

Specialist masterclasses will be offered in particular skills like Chinese pole and cyr wheel and there are plans to develop another Playbox Circus production, following the success of Formula X in 2017.

The company staged a major circus and physical theatre event for the G7 Conference in London in 2014 and in recent years a number of former Playbox members have gone on to join some of the world's leading circus companies, notably Cirque du Soleil.

Emily Jane Quash, Artistic Director of Playbox, said, "We celebrate young people as artists and are proud to be joining forces with School of Larks, who are dedicated to providing high quality training, while encouraging a love of collaborative work, physical activity and challenging perceptions of what is achievable.

"Circus gives another dimension to physical expression and communication, while being loads of fun and an excellent way to stay fit and healthy."
