Rugby Theatre preview: The Addams Family
The Addams Family, Rugby Theatre, July 31 to August 4. Fans of the cartoons, the TV series or the films can renew their acquaintance with the kooky and spooky Addams clan with this musical comedy.
It’s being staged as Rugby Theatre’s annual Summer Youth Project - participants aged 10 to 21 put together a high-quality show after just 10 days of intensive rehearsals, guided by a dedicated team and a professional director. Youth Project’s director Phil Kettle said: “The Addams Family is a quirky musical comedy of love and deception with the strangest family in town. It has to be seen to be believed. The show will be performed by more than 70 of Rugby’s talented youngsters, with a further 12 backstage as techies – great fun for all the cast and crew.” The show tells the story of 18-year-old Wednesday Addams, who has fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable background. But everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents. Hey we’ve all been there. Robert Sloan, Rugby Theatre’s artistic director, said: “I’m incredibly proud of what the Youth Theatre continues to accomplish year on year and especially now, in Rugby Theatre’s 70th year, I am thrilled that the youth of Rugby will be staging such a fun and ambitious show.” Tickets from www.rugbytheatre.co.uk or by calling 01788 541234.
