The golden egg in the Belgrade Theatre’s Easter basket of shows is a new musical adaptation of Jill Murphy’s The Worst Witch (pictured above).
When Hogwarts was but a twinkle in JK Rowling’s eye, Miss Cackle’s Academy was alive in many a child’s mind and the Belgrade brings it to the stage with this spellbinding show.
Running from April 24 to 27, family audiences will revel in the magical adventures of Mildred Hubble, where an old enemy is hatching a new plan for revenge which threatens not just the school, but the whole world.
On the same dates (April 24-27), the Belgrade is staging another award-winning children’s book - Grandad’s Island (pictured right). Syd and Grandad set off on a life-changing adventure full of song, laughter and jungles. It’s a moving show that deals magically and sensitively with themes of love and loss.
Pre-schoolers are well catered for with two shows. There’s a charming adaptation of the book Wow! It’s Night-Time (April 16-18) - where puppetry company Little Angel Theatre brings the story of a curious little owl to life as he discovers the wonders of the night, from the moon and the bats in the sky, to the foxes deep in the forest.
Pongo’s Party on April 20 is packed full of treats This party for Pongo the pig contains fun, laughter and and the voice of Something Special TV star Justin Fletcher. The Easter bunny will also make an appearance and leave every child a special gift.
