Strictly speaking, Cole's show is amazing

February 18, 2019

Brendan Cole: Show Man, Warwick Arts Centre, February 17 only.

He may have been "ousted" from one of the BBC’s most popular shows Strictly Come Dancing, but Brendan Cole has certainly not lost his pizzazz.

The first winner of Strictly was on top form here, giving blistering performances in a varied and action-packed programme.

The opening number, The Greatest Show, was accompanied by a choir of local school children, clearly enjoying the opportunity of appearing in this dazzling production. This was followed by an exquisite waltz to Sondheim’s hit Send in the Clowns, accompanied by fairy light, butterfly dancers. The costumes, as you might expect, were glamorous and glitzy in equal measure.

Cole was joined by an amazing team of professional dancers, outstanding singers and a live band led by Barry Robinson. From ballroom dance to salsa, every number was accompanied by the kind of impressive choreography you might expect from someone who is at the forefront of their field. Raunchy contemporary dance, sizzling salsa and sultry Argentine tango – this show had it all.

As well as his slick moves, Brendan Cole has an excellent rapport with the audience and his enthusiasm for the fabulous music and dance comes across to the audience. From the upbeat, high tempo Pencil Full of Lead Charleston, to the high energy Footloose finale, the audience were left wanting more, more, more.

This tour is Strictly sure to be a success.
