Colin's swansong will aid Zoe's Place charity

October 21, 2018

Messiah, Bedworth Civic Hall, November 3.

It will be the end of an era when what promises to be a glorious performance of Handel's Messiah soars over the rooftops of The Civic Hall, Bedworth, on November 3rd.

Handel's most famous oratorio - featuring the unforgettable Hallelujah Chorus - will mark the swansong for tireless fundraiser Colin Simmons, who has been co-ordinating charity concerts in the area for the past 40 years.

This final effort is in aid of Zoe's Place in neighbouring Exhall which proves palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions.

But over the years Bedworth-born Colin, who now lives in Nuneaton, has raised more than £250,000 for so many different  causes.

In 2008, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council awarded him a medal for Services to the Community.

Colin says: "I was asked if I would consider producing a concert in aid of Zoe's Place and after making a visit with the chairman of the Coventry Philharmonic Choir, we decided that it was a very worthwhile cause.

For this last major concert, Colin has booked the Oriflame Orchestra, leading  soloists and the very popular Coventry Philharmonic Choir.

The voluntary entrepreneur added: "I've organised this concert and all previous ones because there is nothing better than seeing local people perform live on stage in front of an appreciative audience."

When King George ll first heard the Hallelujah Chorus in 1743 he was so moved he stood up.  When the king stood the rest of the audience also felt obliged to stand.  They've been doing it ever since.

Tickets for Handel’s Messiah, which starts at 7.30pm cost £12 and are available from www.civichallinbedworth.co.uk or the Box Office on 02476 376707.
