Witches' brew of tea, biscuits and murder awaits you.
Wyrd Sisters. Bear Pit Theatre, Rother Street, Stratford, September 26-29
The Phoenix Players are currently rehearsing for their production of Wyrd Sisters to be performed at The Bear Pit Theatre in Stratford.
It’s a story that takes all the classic trappings of a Shakespearean tragedy and turns them up till the knobs fall off.
With an evil Duke and Duchess, three witches, a fool, a ghost, a demon, an unlikely troupe of actors, and more, this play promises something for everyone. And we are intriguingly told, that nothing is quite as it seems!
I can’t wait to see this play which has been adapted by Stephen Brigg from Terry Pratchett’s novel of the same name. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come:
“On a dark and stormy night, a king is murdered, his infant son taken from the castle. As the usurping Duke Felmet claims the throne, three witches – the severe Granny Weatherwax, the amiable Nanny Ogg, and the naive Magrat Garlick – meet to plan the fate of the exiled Prince and, indeed, the entire country. At least, they’ll get round to that, once they’ve had a nice cup of tea. With biscuits.”
Phoenix Players is an amateur theatre group which has been running in Stratford since 1945. They put on a variety of shows each year, including comedies, murder mysteries, musicals and pantomime.
The performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12 (£10 conc.)
