Movie plus music adds up to a magic night

July 4, 2018

Music promoters In the Moment present their third  “movie plus music” night at the Spa Centre in Leamington, on Sunday, July 8.

Showing at 7pm in the Royal Cinema is Basil Deardon’s 1962 classic All Night Long, with Richard Attenborough and Patrick McGoohan, and featuring jazz performances by Tubby Hayes, Johnny Dankworth, Charlie Mingus and Dave Brubeck.

Based loosely on Othello, this is a tale of jealousy and revenge set in a docklands jazz club. McGoohan became a proficient drummer for his role, and insisted on doing his own playing in the film.

The film will be followed at 8.30 by a live set from award-winning saxophonist Alan Barnes and his quartet in the Balcony Bar. Barnes was twice voted BBC Jazz Musician of the Year and played for Bjork, Bryan Ferry, Michel LeGrande, Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum, as well as Stan Tracy, John Dankworth and Humphrey Lyttelton.

The programme will finish at 11pm.

While at the show you will be able to see an exhibition of the cartoons of Alistair Graham, featuring portraits of many jazz greats.

Tickets for the evening are £11 in advance from https://tinyurl.com/YBJQ33RA or £12.50 on the door.
