Annie headlines Leamington Jazz Day
Annie Whitehead, Restaurant In The Park, Jephson Gardens, Leamington, April 29.
Internationally renowned trombonist Annie Whitehead headlines at Leamington's Jazz Day on Sunday - the fourth such event staged by music promoters In The Moment.
One of the best-known musicians in British jazz, Whitehead has played and collaborated with such big names as Blur, Joan Armatrading, Elvis Costello, the Charlie Watts Orchestra and The Carla Bley Band.
She'll be bringing her own musical arrangements to Leamington, as well as shining a new light on local band leader and bassist Adrian Litvinoff's repertoire of original and well-known tunes.
Sharing the stage with Litvinoff's band Interplay and Whitehead herself will be Coventry soul singer Letitia George, making her jazz debut at this event.
Doors open at 7.30pm at the Restaurant In The Park, Jephson Gardens, but at 4pm In The Moment are staging a free illustrated talk in the Studio, which is also in Jephson Gardens, their third annual talk linked to the Jazz Day performances.
Tim Wall, Professor of Radio and Music Studies at Birmingham City University, will talk on Jazz at the BBC in inter-war Britain: Lessons for today.
